Beam Me Up Scotty

Victorian Sliders’ Scot Starkey has launched a new composite building products company and has ‘beamed up’ industry cohorts to support him. He retains a major shareholding, having sold a partial interest, in Victorian Sliders, which he founded.

The new company is called Eurodeck and has a new manufacturing facility based in County Laois, Eire. Starkey has moved to the Emerald Isle. Eurodeck expects to trade with the UK and take advantage of being part of the European Union and escape the UK’s Brexit shackles.

Investment

The launch comes after major investment into a new extrusion facility that will house 30 extrusion lines and three mixing plants. It will create up to 60 new jobs in the local area.

In a further twist to the story, whilst Starkey and his team (including window extrusion expert, Greg Guy) were setting up the new facility, the only UK-based extruder of composite building materials Alvic was put on the market by its owners, the BSW Timber Group. Starkey saw an strategic fit and purchased the company in its entirety.

“It has been my intention for some time to enter this exciting market and extrude in Ireland to serve the UK and European markets. It was pure coincidence that Alvic, which would have been our only competitor on the UK mainland, became available. I felt it was an excellent opportunity to enter the market quickly.”

Owner, Alvic and Eurodeck

Sales expert and former Victorian Sliders sales director Danny Hague has also joined the company. He says: “I had decided to take some time off. Ironically, in the very first week, Scot and I spoke because of what was happening and he asked if I’d be interested in joining him. I didn’t hesitate in accepting the role of group sales director across Alvic and Eurodeck.

“Our strategy with the two companies operating side by side offering opportunities to distribute composite decking, fencing, cladding and other composite products will be rolled out shortly. In the meantime, contact me on t. 07467 437090.
