Thoroughly Modern Doors

Composite doors have traditionally been marketed as the best of several worlds – writes Suzanne Nicholl, head of sales & marketing at ODL Europe, a company that is fundamental in the supply of high-quality contemporary composite doors.

They offer the classic style of a timber door with all the modern benefits of thermal efficiency, low maintenance and high security.

Recent trends reveal that more homeowners are opting for modern composite door designs (rather than traditional) that give their property that contemporary edge.

When marketing to these customers, ODL Europe’s range of modern door designs gives them everything they’re looking for. From contemporary aesthetics to the quality and strength, these doors tick all the boxes.

Exclusive designs

We offer the widest range of contemporary door designs including options with a woodgrain finish, which maintains a traditional feel and a smooth finish, which is the ultimate in modern styling. Many styles are exclusive to ODL Europe, which gives installers a unique selling point too.

The most popular designs include the Redford Door, which is characterised by its three-section glazing and flush contemporary looks. Elsewhere, the Moderne Benton offers contemporary aesthetics with an extensive range of options and glazing positions to suit all project applications. There’s also the Moderne Wellington, which has a striking glazing panel that can be positioned to the left, right or centre of the door. For homeowners looking to maximise their privacy whilst still letting in natural light, the Modern Stanley, with its minimal glazing panel, is a good choice.

Glazing panels

All our contemporary door designs are complemented by our range of glazing panels. Again, many of these designs are unique to us.

When it comes to the glazing cassettes, we offer the TriSYS Modern system, which offers the sleek, modern lines that are perfect for contemporary door designs, with all the benefits of the original TriSYS three-piece system.

Strength

With ODL Europe, you get the benefit of a choice of contemporary door designs that give you something different to offer your customers. You also get the benefit of the strength of our composite doors themselves.

We use the Capstone composite door slab, which is installed in over 750,000 properties worldwide every year, so is tried and tested in the most demanding conditions.

Capstone composite doors feature a 2mm thick GRP door skin, making the finish robust, impact-resistant and durable. Stiles and rails are manufactured from a water-resistant pure PVC polymer and reinforced using LVL timbers with a minimum density of 570 kg/m3. The SMC skins and sub-frame door assembly are fully bonded using a urethane adhesive resin. It all adds up to a door that doesn’t warp or twist.

The door slab is filled with CFC-free polyurethane foam with a density of 44.5 – 45.5 kg/m3, which means it achieves a U value as low as 0.8W/m2k as part of a doorset assembly.

Manufacturing standards

When it comes to manufacture, our Bootle facilities on Merseyside operate certified management systems to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. We are members of the Association of Composite Door Manufacturers (ACDM), which means that all our door slabs are tested to and comply with all current UK standards. The door, in combination with an ODL Europe glazing cassette system, achieves PAS24, the industry’s enhanced security standard. It also achieves BS6375 accreditation as part of a doorset.
