Made In Doncaster – Britdor Is Brilliantly British

Made entirely in the UK, the Britdor from DoorCo is a Great British example of ‘on-shoring’ – bringing manufacturing back from overseas to reduce costs, environmental impact and create jobs.

DoorCo’s also has a new facility to complement its existing Macclesfield factory and warehouse. It is in Thorne near Doncaster. The firm has been supported by the local council as it aims to become a major employer in the area. Britdor will be manufactured on this site. The site has extensive room for growth.

Back to Mac

DoorCo have massive expansion plans which include doubling the size of the useable space at Doncaster and using the facility for research and development. MD Dan Sullivan says Macclesfield will continue to be an important part of the company’s operations but having the new facility in easy access to all major routes, means Doncaster can play an important part in distribution whether that be shipping stock around the country, back to Mac or from Macclesfield to Doncaster so that the Thorne site becomes the company’s hub.

Sullivan also says DoorCo will not be abandoning its relationship with its South Korean supplier of foam door slabs but admits that the relationship is great for bulk production, leaving Doncaster making ‘Donnie Doors’ that are more sophisticated and in need of R&D.

DoorCo Macclesfield is also the centre for glazing cassette production and for prepped doors whereby the company routs slabs ready to deliver to fabricators who add value by incorporating the door furniture and adding the all-important frame element.

added a new door to its composite door portfolio that is being manufactured in their new Doncaster facility.

Existing doors

DoorCo’s original offering is a foam-filled composite door. Added to this is Gripcore, comprised of layers of PIR foam and HDF plywood, compressed between two sheets of aluminium to add extra security, stability and rigidity. Both are finished with GRP skins – with DoorCo being an innovator in skin technology..

Britdor

Britdor’s construction is a timber core finished with ‘Thermoplastic CoolSkin’ technology, made to fit and match in colour, any frame profile on the market. The collection will include existing styles such as 6/4 combi, flush and farmhouse, as well as two new exclusive designs just for this range, available in over 15 colours.

DoorCo’s marketing manager, Ellie Pool, says: “This is the first product to be manufactured out of our new Doncaster factory, as opposed to our current overseas facilities and therefore we wanted this brand to have classic British heritage at its core. We’re proud of our connections with brilliant oversea manufacturers, such as our team at DoorCo Korea but as a nod to our latest investment in Doncaster, we wanted the British theme to take centre stage when it comes to branding.

“This brand comes to life with new fonts and logos and the theme also replicates the scenes of Doncaster’s famous railways. The chosen fonts capture the strong, industrial nature of the railway signage and give a real feel of stability and longevity – and brilliant British manufacturing.”

Britdors will be available as skinned-slabs for fabricators to trim, prep, edge-band and furnish before adding hinges and a frame. They will also be available, prepped to whatever degree is required, from DoorCo Macclesfield.

Installers will purchase their doors from fabricator suppliers. Homeowners can design their own door which will then be supplied to an installer in their area – all controlled from the DoorCo Door Designer website.

Available now

Ellie Pool says: “Britdors are ready to be ordered now. Our new Doncaster team are well-settled and the production line is flowing nicely. Under the management of our head of operations, Mark Towers, senior manufacturing manager, Chris Mansfield and Doncaster’s manufacturing manager, David Wells-Burr, the Bridor operation is in capable hands, so the next steps for the brand are exciting.”
