Rooflight Market Goes Flat

Keylite Roof Windows has introduced its new Select Flat Glass Rooflight which is designed to tackle the biggest challenges faced by tradespeople – from water-pooling and complex kerb construction to long lead times and compliance headaches.

Flat roof glazing systems are commonly used in flat roof extensions at the rear of residential properties but are also frequently specified in education and healthcare applications.

While commercial settings require flat roofing systems to offer impact resistance in the event of a fall, residential properties do not need to adhere to this requirement due to the infrequency of roof access for installation or maintenance.

Additionally, flat roofs require a minimum of a 5° slope to prevent pooling rainwater that can lead to algae staining, reduced light transmission and in some cases, leaks.

Creating an accurate slope on site usually means cutting and assembling a timber kerb, which can be time-consuming, especially across multiple openings and adds extra work even for skilled tradespeople.

Commercial standards for residential applications

Keylite has introduced the Select Flat Glass Rooflight (SFRG) for residential properties, complete with pre-built timber sloping kerb with a 5° pitch and PVC-U kerb designed to prevent standing water. The kerbs are factory made, removing the requirement for on-site measuring or cutting and helping to save valuable installation time.

Fully compliant with Part L and Part B of the building regulations, the proprietary kerbs are compatible with Keylite’s Select & Premium ranges of rooflights, offering fast, hassle-free installation and peace of mind on compliance.

Safety

Created with a laminated inner pane to prevent the glass from shattering upon impact, the safety glazing would hold any broken glass together and comes as standard on all Keylite glazing products.

Energy

The SFRG features a thermally broken aluminium frame for excellent thermal and acoustic performance, delivering an impressive 1.3 W/m2K Ud-value to ensure the window is Part L compliant.

Availability

Available in 21 standard stocked sizes as well as a range of made to order sizes, the SFRG can be supplied as a glazed frame only or with Keylite’s timber sloping and PVC-U kerbs.

Shane Kerlin, the managing director at Keylite, says: “The introduction of Keylite’s new Select Flat Glass Rooflights, combined with our sloping kerb, offers installers a quick and easy solution for fitting flat glass roofing systems into residential homes while adhering to industry regulations.”

The full range

The full flat roof product range from Keylite includes not only the Select Flat Glass Rooflight but also includes the Premium Flat Glass Rooflight (PFRG), Flat Glass Rooflight (FRG – non-fragile), Polycarbonate Flat Roof Dome (FRD – non-fragile) and Flat Roof Lantern (FRL), which are available with a choice of glazing and operation options, including fixed, manual and electric openings.

Together, these Flat Roof Solutions give tradespeople a complete, easy-to-fit package that saves time, meets Building Regulations and delivers a smart, energy-efficient finish.
