What’s The Most Unreliable Trade Van On the Road?

A new study has revealed which are the most unreliable vans on the market. The study carried out by Moneybarn looked at a range of factors such as the MoT pass rates for the 30 most popular vans in the UK, the average consumer rating for the model and its servicing demand.

The Nissan Primastar receives the lowest reliability score on this list with a shocking 1.26/10. The Primastar has a concerning MoT pass rate of just under 47% and suffers the lowest average consumer rating on the list of 3/5.

Coming in second place is another Nissan, the Nissan NV200, earning a reliability score of 1.72/10.

3      Vauxhall Vivaro

4      Fiat Scudo

5      Fiat Doblo

6      Peugeot Bipper

6      Renault Trafic

8      Vauxhall Combo

9      Toyota HiAce

9      Vauxhall Movano

Not far in front of the NV200 is the Vauxhall Vivaro which sees a 2.41/10 reliability score. The Vivaro has a low average consumer rating of below 4 and has seen a high 990 searches for servicing in the UK.

 

The UK’s most reliable vans on the market:

1      Ford Transit Custom

2      Volkswagen Crafter

3      Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

4      Volkswagen Transporter

5      Ford Transit Courier

6      Renault Master

7      Ford Transit Connect

8      Fiat Talento

8      Peugeot Expert

8      Citroën Berlingo

The Fiat Talento, Peugeot Expert and Citroën Berlingo  all tied in 8th place on a reliability score of 6.21.

Ranking first on list is the ever popular Ford Transit Custom, which was found to be the most reliable van on the market, with a reliability score of 10/10 and an average consumer rating of 4.7, the highest on the list (together with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter).

The Volkswagen Crafter and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter come in second and third place, both obtaining a reliability score of over 9/10.

 

Further findings:

  • The most common reason that vans fail their MoT is problems with electrical equipment, including lamps and reflectors.

  • The Fiat Scudo received the lowest independent rating, receiving a low 2/5 from Auto Express.

  • The Ford Transit has seen the largest number of servicing searches than any other model - there have been 3,870 searches for Ford Transit Servicing in the UK in the past 24 months.

  • The Ford Puma, despite currently being the UK’s second most popular car with 3,318 registrations this April, is the most unreliable of the UK’s current popular cars.
