Get On Your Bike For Free Proficiency Training

Swapfiets will be organising the UK’s first e-cycling proficiency course following research that found that the majority of Brits don’t feel comfortable cycling in town or city centres.

So now if one of your fitters wants to get to the job by bike, you can help her/him/they get there safely – whilst avoiding the whatever ULEZ or congestion  charge happens to be in place in your nectk of the woods.

A national survey of 2,000 people conducted by Swapfiets (the bike membership service) found that, whilst a third (30%) of adults aim to cycle more, most (67%) face a dilemma as they don’t feel confident cycling in a town or city centre.

Road rage

Fears of being hit by a vehicle (68%), encountering car drivers with road rage (54%) and not knowing where to go (27%) top the list of the nation’s anxieties when it comes to cycling in the smoke, preventing Brits from getting on their bikes.

To combat this confidence issue, Swapfiets has announced the its one-day proficiency course to encourage more Brits to get on their bikes. The course is Swapfiets’ own version of the national CBT course required by motorcyclists to become road legal drivers with guests leaving with all the tips and training needed to cycle in busy areas, with confidence.

Free

The free course, run by cycling safety professionals, consists of a range of three class levels catering to beginners, intermediates and advanced riders. Starting in a closed off area it will take riders through the basics of being road safe – from emergency stopping and signalling – followed by putting these tips to the test on quiet streets, all before trialling them out on the busy streets of London.

“We’ve seen a huge rise in cyclists over the past couple of years. However, with such a high percentage of people scared to get on two wheels in built-up areas, our London e-cycling school felt like the perfect solution. Who knows how to better cycle in a city centre than us, the Dutch?”

Trial

DJ and Swapfiets brand ambassador Woody Cook, who will be taking part in the trial says: “I’ve had a couple of falls whilst cycling which has been a huge knock for my confidence. I’m sure taking part in this trial course with Swapfiets will give me the skills to cycle in the city with confidence and hopefully get me back on two wheels whenever I’m visiting.”

Picture: The course is being trialled on 29 April 11:00am-3:00pm in Shoreditch, London and people can sign up to the whole course or specific classes, free of charge. If successful, Swapfiets will roll the programme out across the country. To sign up – Click Here
