Another House Builder Joins Site Restart

Gleeson, the house builder, will be opening up sites around the country, in a controlled manner - adhering to strict government guidance on safe working practice.

A company spokesperson told The Installer & The Fabricator: "Every member of staff working on our sites will have received a full Covid-19 safety induction with the updates that we have made to our standard operating procedures. Thereafter we will open our remaining sites on a site by site basis where it is safe to do so for our people, sub-contractors and customers."

The spokesperson also said: "With regards to our sales offices, once we have the further guidance from the government announcement on the 10 May, we are expecting to open a number of our sales offices on an 'by appointment only' basis so purchasers can select options on homes they have already committed to. We will also arrange a number of viewings on the same basis.

"Over the course of the next few days, we will be carrying out the essential work of making our sites both safe and secure and prepared for when we are able to return. We will be working in collaboration with our customers and sub-contractors to ensure that these plans will be carried out with the least of disruption where possible.

"As soon as we can return safely, we will be back building low-cost quality homes for first time buyers, many of whom are the key-workers currently working for all of our benefit in the fight against the pandemic."

In the first instance, Gleeson is starting construction work at the following sites:

  • North West & Cumbria - Lune Park and Birch Green.

  • Yorkshire & Midlands - Linkswood Park, Kilner Park.

  • North East & Northumberland - Middlestone Meadows, Windermere Green, Rosecroft Heights, Ryehills, Park Avenue, Woodhorn Park.

Gleeson plans to prioritise all homes that have been reserved to try and avoid any further delay.

The Installer also asked what protection measures have you put in place for sub-contractors and staff working on the site?

"Following the recommendations of the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) and Public Health England, we have developed a comprehensive plan that we have is now in place. We will have a team of dedicated social distancing marshals on every open site to ensure that procedures are being adhered to."
