Community Project in Treberth

J.G. Hale Construction has started to convert the former Blue Dragon Hotel that will have over-55s in Cardiff chasing the 49 new apartments; and a development in Newport to create 45 older-persons homes alongside a community hub.

For the first project, the firm will be working on behalf of Wales & West Housing and with Asbri Planning.

The Blue Dragon Hotel was once a thriving hotel but after being derelict for several years, it has now been demolished to make way for the new development.

J.G. Hale Construction is a Wales-based firm recognised for its commitment to innovative, eco-friendly design, quality materials and finishes and sustainable building practices. The company is committed to using local sub-contractors and suppliers.

“There is a severe shortage of affordable housing in Cardiff. We are working together to bring the Blue Dragon site back into use to create modern homes that will build a real sense of community and connectivity for the older people who will live there.”

Director Of Development, Wales & West Housing

2,500 new homes

Wales & West Housing has a ten year partnership arrangement with J.G. Hale Construction targeted to build 2,500 new homes across Wales over the next five years.

Community Project In Newport

J.G. Hale has also started work on a new development in the Treberth area of Newport, which will create 45 older persons homes alongside a community hub.

Working on behalf of not for profit housing provider Pobl, the scheme will create facilities for both the residents and tenants living in the wider area.

The project makes use of a parcel of land left over from the redevelopment of Newport’s 1940s prefab homes more than 20 years ago and will utilise a series of sustainable technologies, including PV panels and battery storage, as well as green roofs and climbing walls.

Off Site Manufacture

A key factor to J.G Hale Construction’s involvement with the project is the utilisation of the Off Site Manufacture (OSM) of their Trisowarm panel system.

The scheme will comprise two apartment blocks, one containing 18 one-bed apartments and the other 27 two-bed apartments. They will be linked by a three-storey atrium space, forming an entrance to the residential element.

A sun-room and a residents’ garden will be located on the southerly aspect of the building and will take advantage of views out over the existing parkland towards the 19 Hills area of Ringland.
