Bisharp – Middlesborough Developers Told To Hurry Up
A £200 million regeneration project to transform a derelict site in Middlesbrough has moved forward after planning permission was approved....
Read Full ArticleCapital & Centric just purchased Weir Mill in Stockport with a view to converting it into 250 flats in a £60 million project. The firm's Crusader Mill project is ongoing.
£7 million of the money will come from Homes England via the Housing Infrastructure Fund - on the proviso planning permission is granted. The application will go in later this year.
It is rumoured that, despite the tribulations of the coronavirus pandemic, Capital & Centric have still spent £2 million a week on its refurbishment projects.
Plyscrapers
In April the firm raised the funds to go ahead with a hotel build in Manchester that has been inspired by the game Jenga. It is not know at this time if the plans include wooden construction following the government's new post-Grenfell restrictions on the height of wooden buildings known as 'plyscrapers'.
Crusader Works
In 2017, Capital & Centric submitted a planning application for the conversion of the grade two-listed Crusader Works mill complex near Manchester Piccadilly Station into 200 flats. The application was successful and the works are still continuing.
The project (designed by Shedkm) is unusual for a city centre development as there are no parking spaces within the scheme but every flat is allocated cycle storage.
Speaking about both the Manchester and Stockport deals, Adam Higgins, co-founder of Capital & Centric, said: “There are very few of these big listed mills left undeveloped. So to have the opportunity to save them and open them up again makes us feel very privileged. All the ingredients are there, oak ceilings, oak floors and iron columns. They make some incredible loft apartments.”
