Green, Lean And Mean

Aluminium fabricator CDW Systems has been recognised for being green and at the same time is recruiting to be lean and mean in dealing with a booming order book of commercial work that was put off in the pandemic.

The business, along with sister company Clearway Doors & Windows, received an award from its main profile supplier Technal UK (Hydro Building Systems). Having ordered to date 44 tonnes of Circal 75R, Hydro’s 75% recycled aluminium profiles, CDW has helped save 378 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

“Technal UK enables us to provide our customers with a viable green and sustainable option. We are very proud to receive this prestigious award from them.”

– Jeremy Phillips

Group chairman, CDW Systems

Phillips was speaking as he received the award on behalf of both CDW and Clearway from Hydro’s MD Allan Barr. He added: “It is really pleasing that in using Technal profiles that utilise Circal 75R alloy as much as possible we can contribute towards reducing our carbon footprint. We have been able to work closely with Technal whose UK HQ is only a few miles away from both CDW and Clearway at Tewkesbury. This reinforces the sustainability credentials of aluminium. We are also looking at more efficient ways that both our factory waste and post-consumer waste can be recycled.”

Lean and mean

Phillips also says: “We have a very full order book, with commercial contracts coming off hold, plus school projects that are being done later in the year than usual and we are now recruiting to cope with that, which is a great place to be. We will be spreading production between CDW and Clearway to help with the flow of things and help us attack lead times as certain products, such as our glazed patio systems, are better suited to the Clearway operation and will move more quickly through production.”

The firms have also migrated to a transport provider to provide better flexibility, with deliveries in certain places and at certain times.

“Everything we are doing is geared towards being able to get product out of the factory door and to customers when they want it,” adds Phillips. “Strengthening our team will improve our commitment to supplying our customers on time as demand continues to increase.”
