A slimline aluminium curtain walling system proved just the ticket to create a bright and modern façade a new look bus station in Rawtenstall, Lancashire.

Built to replace the town’s dilapidated bus station which dated back to the 1970s, the new £3.5 million transport hub has been designed by Day Architects to provide passengers with a more pleasant travelling experience.  Senior Architectural Systems' SF52 aluminium curtain wall system was installed by UK Curtain Walling for RTB Projects and has been used throughout the new station to open up the main entrance and stand areas.

Light

Maximising the flow of natural light during the day, the extensive use of glazed curtain walling also transforms the facility at dusk to create an eye-catching addition to the town’s urban landscape.

“The creation of the new bus station in Rawtenstall presented numerous technical and logistical challenges which were successfully overcome by all those involved and we are both proud and delighted to have played a part.”

Energy

As well as offering aesthetic value, the enhanced thermal performance and robust construction of Senior’s SF52 aluminium curtain wall system has helped create a more comfortable and energy efficient interior environment, which is a far cry from the original cold and leaky bus station.

The durability and minimal maintenance requirements offered by Senior’s SF52 aluminium system make it a cost-effective choice for such high-traffic environments and thanks to the cradle-to-cradle recyclability of aluminium, it is also a sustainable solution.
